2023 The Estates Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District

Sourced primarily from the historic Schweizer Vineyard in the Stags Leap District, this Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the elegance and structure of one of Napa Valley's most renowned appellations. Cool evening breezes and distinctive soils create a focused, expressive wine, complemented by a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon from our estate vineyard.

The exceptional 2023 vintage featured one of Napa Valley's longest growing seasons in recent years, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness and acidity. Aged for 18 months in 93.1% new French oak, the wine delivers remarkable concentration, purity, and balance with a refined, lingering finish.

VINEYARD

THE VINEYARD: The surrounding hills of the Stags Leap District funnel in breezes from the bay, making this small but renowned AVA slightly cooler at night than other areas in Napa Valley. This subtle climate variation and the appellation's soils result in wines with a beautiful and focused flavor profile. This wine features fruit from the Schweizer Vineyard, the 40-acre vineyard the Schweizer family has farmed since 1956, which we've worked with since our opening in 1966. We've complemented it with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon from our own Stags Leap District estate vineyard .

THE VINTAGE:
The 2023 vintage was exceptional in Napa Valley, with one of the longest growing seasons in a decade or more. Its consistently mild weather throughout the season with an abundance of sunshine allowed grapes to ripen slowly and develop maximum flavor concentration while maintaining great acidity, leading to a vintage with freshness, purity, and elegance. Grapes were harvested from October 3 through October 24 and spent 15 days on the skins. The wine was aged for 18 months in 93.1% new French oak.
